America Reads Goes Virtual
Like most of us in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Wichita State University, Career Development Center, America Reads students were not allowed to return to the classroom to help K-8 students to learn and better themselves at reading. Isabel Ridpath, Danielle Billingsley, Kiara Suarez-Sosa, and Alex Pierson still want to help their students, so they are recording themselves reading books. Check them out on our YouTube channel. While you are there, be sure to subscribe to our channel and keep checking back, stories will be uploaded weekly.

Dental Hygiene Mock Interviews
Career Development Center staff conducted 32 virtual mock interviews for the senior cohort in the Dental Hygiene program on April 6. This talented group of students will soon be preparing for their board examination and entering the workforce in Wichita and surrounding areas.

The NASA Connection
Admissions partnered with the Career Development Center to host the first chat in a new series called Shocker Career Chats. About 80 unique viewers tuned in to hear Shocker alum and current NASA employee, Alex Kanelakos, speak about his student life and internship experiences at Wichita State, his career at NASA and advice to securing internships and full-time positions with NASA. Watch the recorded version of the live broadcast.

The next Shocker Career Chat will take place from 4-5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15 and will cover resumes, on-campus jobs, and internships. Students, faculty and staff who would like to join in can visit wichita.edu/shockercareerchats at the time the chat is scheduled to begin.
