National Student Employment Week 2020
Colleges and universities across the country recognized the importance of student employees during National Student Employment Week 2020, April 12 – 18. Student employees perform invaluable services with enthusiasm, dedication, and initiative. To show our appreciation, the Career Development Center highlighted a few of the many amazing students that work on our campus. Thank you, Danielle Billingsley, Star Billingsley, David Diaz, Megan Maupin, Isabel Ridpath, Christine RobinsonTate Watts, and all our wonderful Wichita State University student employees.

Resumes, On-Campus Jobs and Internships Virtual Workshop
On April 15, the Admissions Office and the Career Development Center hosted a live chat about resumes, on-campus jobs, and interviews. Margarita Baez and Mark Bengtson discussed how to build a resume, essential content to include on it, how to start your professional network and how to seek on-campus jobs. Here is a link to the recording.

Physical Therapy Mock Interviews
Maggie Slack, Jill Pletcher, and Sarah Rupp conducted 40 mock-interviews for physical therapy students on April 15 and 22. The students were asked, "What skills and strengths do you possess that are essential to being a good physical therapist?; There are many health-related careers you could pursue. Why are you particularly interested in physical therapy?; and Why do you want to work for our organization?" Several of the students commented that they had become interested in physical therapy because they had gone through physical therapy in their lives and now want to help others.

Thinking About Grad School Workshop
Aaron Coffey, Assistant Dean for Graduate Enrollment Management & Director of Graduate Admissions, presented a workshop on Thinking About Grad School on April 21. Aaron provided great insight on how to search and apply to graduate school. Thirty-three Wichita State students attended the Zoom workshop and asked great questions about the difference in course-work between undergrad and grad classes, GPA and testing requirements, and more.

Shocker Career Chats: Creative Careers with the Greteman Group
On April 22, Jordan Walker, Wichita State Graduate and Digital Director for Wichita-based aviation marketing firm, Greteman Group hosted a live chat for students. Jordan discussed what it's like to grow up in Shocker nation, her time at Wichita State University, and how the relationships she made on campus continue to provide value in her career. The Admissions Office and the Career Development Center collaborated to host this event.

First-Destination Survey
The Career Development Center launched the First-Destination Survey to spring and summer graduates on April 24 through an email link in Handshake. This survey captures information regarding how new college graduates fare in their careers within six months of graduation and provides data on the career outcomes associated with a college education on a national scale. Questions include 1) types of employment; 2) furthering education, e.g., accepted to graduate or professional school; 3) still seeking employment; 4) and volunteer or military plans. In addition to providing outcomes, the First-Destination Survey provides trends data over time to inform the discussion about the value of higher education. Please encourage your students who are graduating this spring and summer to complete the survey.
