Career Development Center News | June 15

Spring 2020 Events Recap 

During the Spring 2020 semester, the Career Development Center hosted 130 events. 

  • 82 events were hosted in-person, including career fairs, workshops, professional photo events, employer information tables, interviews, and presentations. 
  • 48 were hosted virtually, including career chats, workshops, presentations, employer drop-ins, and mock-interviews.
 

2,493 Wichita State students and community members participated these events. 

  • 1,985 attended the events in person. 
  • 508 attended in the events virtually.

Dan Rosensweig, CEO at Chegg

For those interested in a career in technology, come hear from (and ask questions to) Dan Rosensweig, the CEO of Chegg. Dan has had a storied and successful career in technology, holding roles such as CEO of Guitar Hero, COO of Yahoo, and many more.
Cathy Polinsky, CTO at Stitch Fix
11 a.m. | July 2 

For those interested in a career in engineering or product management, get your questions answered by Cathy Polinsky, CTO of Stitch Fix, where she leads the Engineering, Product & UX, Security, and IT organizations. Prior to her four years at Stitch Fix, Cathy held several leadership roles at top technology firms, including SVP Engineering at Salesforce and Sr. Engineering Manager at Yahoo.
Reshma Saujani,
Founder and CEO at Girls Who Code

11 a.m. | July 7 

For those interested in a career in the non-profit space, Reshma Saujani is the founder of one of the largest non-profits in the world: Girls Who Code. She is also the internationally bestselling author of "Brave, Not Perfect." Prior to starting Girls Who Code, Reshma was the first Indian-American woman to run for congress, and also worked as an attorney at top law firms.
Michael Seibel, CEO at Y Combinator
11 a.m. | July 9

If you’re looking to work a few years and then start your own company or work at a startup, we could not think of a better person to share advice than Michael Seibel, CEO at Y Combinator ("YC"). YC is consistently called the #1 startup accelerator in the world, having worked with companies like Airbnb, Dropbox, Stripe, and even WayUp. Prior to becoming a partner and CEO at YC, Michael was the co-founder of two startups: Twitch (sold for over $1B) and Socialcam ($60M).
Benno Dorer, CEO at Clorox
11 a.m. | July 14

For those interested in a career in CPG, marketing or supply chain, Benno Dorer, the CEO of Clorox, is someone you should take advice from. Aside from being the highest-rated CEO in the U.S. in 2017 (according to Glassdoor), Benno has spent his entire career in CPG, having spent 14 years at Procter & Gamble (beginning right out of college) in Marketing and GM positions.
Zach Sims,
Founder and CEO at Codecademy

11 a.m. | July 16

For those interested in a career in coding or entrepreneurship, Zach Sims knows a thing or two. His company, Codecademy, teaches millions of people how to code every year. Zach started Codecademy immediately after graduating from Columbia University, and can share advice for others thinking about taking the risky-yet-rewarding path of entrepreneurship.
Eva Moskowitz,
CEO & Founder at Success Academy

11 a.m. | July 21

For those interested in a career in education or education policy, there are few more qualified people to speak about it than Eva Moskowitz, the Founder and CEO of Success Academy, the largest and highest-performing free, public charter school network in NYC.
Gerri Martin-Flickinger,
CTO at Starbucks

11 a.m. | July 23

For those interested in a career in engineering, come learn from Gerri Martin-Flickinger, the Chief Technology Officer at Starbucks. Gerri has had an incredible career in technology and Information Security, holding roles like Chief Information Officer at Adobe and Verisign and McAfee, as well as Senior Leadership positions at Chevron. Gerri will share what it was like to go from a Computer Science study at Washington State University to CTO of one of the largest (and most known) companies in the world.
Peter Boyce,
Partner at General Catalyst

11 a.m. | July 28

For those interested in a career in venture capital, hear from and interact with Peter Boyce, one of the youngest Partners at General Catalyst, a top VC fund. Peter sits on the board of companies like Outdoor Voices and Ro, and has been involved in dozens of investments, including Giphy, Jet.com, and many more.
Jim Cramer,
Investment Pro and Media Personality

11 a.m. | August 4

For those interested in a career in finance, media, or journalism, Jim Cramer is one of the most-watched American television personalities. He is the host of Mad Money on CNBC, a best-selling author, and cofounder of TheStreet.com. Before all that he was an entry-level reporter, a stockbroker at Goldman Sachs, an investor at a top hedge fund, and much more.
Linda Findley Kozlowski,
CEO at Blue Apron

11 a.m. | August 6

For those interested in a career in e-commerce or retail, join Linda Kozlowski, CEO of Blue Apron, as she shares advice for the next generation of leaders. In addition to her role as CEO at Blue Apron, Linda sits on the Board of Ralph Lauren and Dress for Success. Prior to her current role, Linda was COO of Etsy, COO of Evernote, and a Director at Alibaba.
The Career Development Center in Brennan III is open for in-person appointments Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. We also have virtual hours Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
