Thousands protest while troops surround Potala Palace
Tibetans continue to protest despite paramilitary presence
In the early hours of this morning around 5,000 young Tibetans took part in the biggest protests to happen in Tibet since March. The students marched through the streets of Rebkong County, stopping to demonstrate outside a local government building.
The protest come one day after China mobilised paramilitaries to suppress the protests carried out in Rebkong yesterday.
The protesters were demanding equality and language rights for Tibetans and the return of the Dalai Lama. Although Chinese armed police and military were deployed, thye did not engage with protesters.

Meanwhile, new video reveals an intimidating show of force by China in the middle of the Tibetan capital, Lhasa.
Chinese state television broadcast a programme yesterday which showed scores of Chinese military personnel sitting in the shadow of Potala Palace – the former residence of the Dalai Lama.
