Carnaval de Binche
Sunday 26 February 2017

Thank you for joining us to Binche this Sunday. We are going with a group of about 30 people. The weather will be about 12 degrees with a low chance of rain (still things can change).

Please read this mail carefully. Most important is to come on time for departure. You don't need a ticket, just come to the station because your name is on our list. Do NOT buy a train ticket, it's all included already.

As I am personally not able to go this Sunday, for this trip Sascha Brose will be your tour guide. He knows about all the ins and outs. If you have questions during the day, please ask him (0499-604489). If you have questions before departure, please call me (Edgar, 0495-345144) or reply to this email.

We depart from Gare du Midi ONLY. Our train is #3331 to Binche, departing at 10h35 and arriving at 11h46. You can meet with the group in one of two spots:

  1. From about 10h00 onwards at Sam's Café inside the main Midi terminal and opposite the entry of the Eurostar. There is a big Zebra statue. Look for our group / logo.
  2. At about 10h25 we'll walk towards the right platform and wait around the top of the escalator. Please do not arrive any later than 10h30 because you may need to find us in the train.
  3. Our return train is #3318 at 18h14 with arrival at 19h25.
On board: We have reserved seats both ways. Normally in the very front section of the train. Please help us to "claim" our seats, especially at the start of both trips. It is very important not to let other people sit between us as it will have a big impact on our interaction. We've done such trips quite a few times now and it is a clear difference when you know everybody is from our group. Note that we must travel together as a group and if you would like to leave early you must get a separate ticket.

Dress code: Just wear regular clothes (think about possible rain). The citizens of Binche are the stars of the day, not you :-)

Our lunch: We will have lunch at the Brasserie Binchoise around 12h15. You have all ordered your main meal (Carbonades, Canard or Veggie), as well as a desert. Everyone has one drink included as well (regular beer, wine, soft), whereas some of you also opted for the special local beer tasting.

Carnaval parade
The parade starts at the Place Eugène Derbaix next to the Binche station. From there it goes via Avenue Jean Derave and Avenue Burlet towards Avenue Wanderpepen, all the way to Rue Notre Dame and then back to the Grand Place. It is advised to go for a walk directly after lunch and catch the parade somewhere on Avenue Wanderpepen. In case the start is delayed (like last year) then walk slowly towards the starting point along this Avenue Wanderpepen.

Sascha is looking forward to seeing you on Sunday! Surely you will be having a great day out while witnessing this century old Carnaval. If you have any problems, please give me a call or send an email to info@expatclub.org
