This is a reminder email about tomorrow's trip. Note that we leave slightly later than initially indicated, so enjoy your 30 minutes more sleep :-)

For the lunch, please let me know if you would like to change your selection to mussels as that became now available. A quick email to would suffice.

For the rest, enjoy your Friday afternoon. The weather seems to be OK tomorrow; a bit on the cold side, but no rain! Wear a warm sweater/jacket.

Opal Coast Tour
Saturday 14 May

Thank you for joining us this Saturday to the Opal Coast in Northern France. It will be a memorable trip to various places along this beautiful coastline. We are going with about 25-30 people, so a smaller group than usual. Therefore we still have spots in the bus in case a friend or colleague would like to join. With the code opaldiscount they will receive a last-minute friend discount of €15, so basically they will pay the early-bird fee like yourself. IMPORTANT: Choose your lunch (see below, if applicable).

During our trip we will make stops in Dunkerque, Gravelines, Calais, Cap Blanc Nez and Cap Gris Nez, Wimereux and Boulogne sur Mer. So we're going to see a lot! The weather forecasts are now 13 degrees and cloudy, but no rain. Please do wear some warm clothes and a (wind)jacket, as the sea wind may be chilly.

Please read this page carefully. We leave later than initially indicated. Most important is to come **on time** for departure, as well as all other departures during the day. You won't receive a ticket, just come to the bus as your name is on the list. We expect you to arrive 15 minutes before departure time. If we do not hear from you until 10 minutes before departure time, we may decide to leave (just like a gate closes earlier than the flight). We leave from 3 locations this time. You can find Google maps links below or on our website.
  • Place Schuman, meeting time is 07h15 in front of the KBC Bank on the roundabout. Advice: if you come from the centre and Arts/Loi by metro (#1 & 5), sit in the front car so you are immediately at the correct side of the station.
  • Public bus stop at Metro Yser (# 2 & 6), exit 6, meeting time is 07h25. Note: the bus will only stop here to pick up, so there is nobody waiting for you besides fellow passengers. You will certainly recognise our coach and we'll keep in touch with you.
  • Metro Simonis - on the main Boulevard Leopold II, Northside so the road leading to the Basilique. Meeting time is 7h30.
  • Basilique - Corner Avenue des Gloires Nationales & Avenue Charles-Quint, meeting time is 07h35. Again, nobody is waiting for your here and you may have to wait fa bit, depending on how early we can leave from Schuman.
We unfortunately left people behind on previous trips as they were (very) late. Obviously such a decision is not taken easily, but we need to stick to our schedule and don't want other travellers to wait. If you fear you are going to be late for our meeting time, call immediately with 0495-345144 so we may find a solution. Tip: just take one bus, tram or metro earlier than you would normally do. Time flies when you meet with others this morning.

Our program for those joining for lunch (estimates, subject to change due to traffic conditions):

07h30 - Latest departure Place Schuman

For those who are not joining for lunch, after arrival in Calais you will be taken straight to Cap Blanc Nez, after which you will walk to Cap Griz Nez (about 2,5 hours). At the moment 9 people are joining for the hike.

LUNCH: Initially the choice was between fish, beef and vegetarian. Please note MUSSELS are now also possible. If you would like this, please let me know asap by sending a short email to The price is very low (less than 15 euro, excluding drinks).

It is not a problem to find parking around Place Schuman or Metro Yser and it's free all day (at Yser on the bus parking side, around Avenue de l'Héliport as you may have to pay for parking inside the inner beltway). Make sure to take your valuables out of the car, and you may want to leave the glove department open. The bus will drop you here in the evening again.
We've reserved lunch for you in a nice seaview restaurant in Calais. From here you can see the boats leaving to and coming from England. During the ride in the morning we'll check again for your meal preference. Lunch is about €18 including for the main platter, desert and one drink.

Other essential information:
  • Please be on time for departure and also during the day at the various stops whenever we need to get back into the bus.
  • Don't bring your ticket copy. Your name is on our list.
  • Wear proper clothes. We'll be outside for a good part of the day. Rain or wind jacket is advisable.
  • Save this number for emergencies and leave your phone on as well: +32-495-345144
  • Bring a camera. You want to capture the memories!
  • Bring binoculars. You do want to wave to the Brits on the other side of the pond!
Meeting point Place Schuman: next to KBC Bank (click here for Google Maps, wait a few seconds for street view).

Meeting Point Yser: at the public bus stops right next to exit 6 of Metro Yser (click here for Google Maps, and see pictures below). Please note you will not be welcomed here, but that it's just a 2nd pick up point. There may be other people waiting there though.
