September is definitely the season for song in both Sydney and Melbourne this year. Highlights in Sydney include the Sacred Music Festival and a sensational Leonard Cohen tribute show. Melbourne meanwhile has the inaugural FOJAM festival happening next weekend. Here are all the details …

MELBOURNE – FOJAM – SUNDAY 8 SEPTEMBER 

This is our final reminder to our Melbourne readers not to miss out on the new Jewish music festival FOJAM (Festival of Jewish Arts and Music) happening next Sunday, 8th September at the Melbourne Recital Centre.

Whether you come in the daytime or the evening, it will be spectacular. You can also come all day, if you have stamina and want to fully immerse yourself.

NB. Daytime and Evening tickets are valid for 6 hrs which includes four shows in the Elisabeth Murdoch Hall. That works out to be about $22.50 a show!

SYDNEY – SACRED MUSIC FESTIVAL –  SATURDAY 7 SEPT

For our Sydney readers, this is also our last reminder about the wonderful opening night of the 2019 Sydney Sacred Music Festival.

Tickets are selling fast for this incredible concert which brings together 12 diverse cultures in harmony at Emanuel Synagogue. The concert is just over a week away, on Saturday 7th September from 7:00pm.

The 12-piece inter-faith Orchestra is made up of artists representing diverse cultural and faith backgrounds, creating 'new' Australian Sacred music featuring Cantor George Mordecai. The Orchestra will take the audience on a transformative journey of cultural exchange and discovery.

SYDNEY - LEONARD COHEN SHOW - SAT 21 SEPT

After massive, critically acclaimed sold-out shows in 2017 & 2018, Monsieur Camembert returns with its all-star, blockbuster show celebrating the life, music, poetry – AND 85TH BIRTHDAY - of iconic Canadian poet and songwriter LEONARD COHEN

For this unmissable City Recital Hall event, the 14-piece line-up features Monsieur Camembert (Yaron Hallis on vocals, guitar; Eddie Bronson on saxes, clarinet, flute, accordion; Nick Hoorweg, double bass; Jim Pennell, lead guitar; Daniel Pliner, piano; and Jess Ciampa, drums, percussion) and will feature special guest singers Abby Dobson, Ilan Kidron, Gregg Arthur, Shauna Jensen, Susie Bishop, together with 3 virtuoso guests: Mexican harp player Victor Valdes, Ukrainian cellist Anatoli Torjinski & Australia’s greatest throat-singer: Mongolian horse-hair fiddle player Bukhchuluun Gamburged.
