We have so much happening in February that we wanted to send you a reminder email with some of our favorite events. We are especially excited to join Great Alaska Schools in offering events for families to celebrate Public Schools Week. There are great things happening in March and a fantastic new service to talk about!

Letterboxing Scavenger Hunt
We will use maps, compasses, GPS, and clues to find hidden boxes around the library grounds. Keep track of the boxes you find in your passport and mark the ones you find with the stamp you'll make yourself!

Saturday Science â€“ Snap Circuits
Snap! Turn on a light. Snap! Send up a flying saucer. Snap! Hear a space battle. Learn how electricity works by snapping different pieces together to create circuits that do all this...and more. Ages 8-12. Space is limited.

Countdown to Kindergarten
Join us for fun, hands-on activities for your future kindergartener (starting school in 2016).
Materials and activities provided by Anchorage School Districtâ€™s Countdown to Kindergarten kits. For children ages 3-5 with their caregivers. Families are welcome to join.

Baby Builders Club
All future builders come, play and build at the library. We will have a variety of blocks for all developmental stages of block play from soft baby blocks to Duplo LEGO blocks. Block play supports skills for future achievement in science and math. Ages 5 & under with their families

1000 Books before Kindergarten Launch Party
Join Miss Alaska, Miss Teen Alaska, and Alaskan artist Lee Post as we hear stories and do a craft. You can sign up for an exciting new reading program for kids 5 and under. Track the number of books read on a special chart, and when you reach your goal of 1000 books, choose an Alaska-themed picture book to take home. If you read two-three books a day, youâ€™ll reach your goal in about a year.

STEM storytime will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math concepts for preschoolers. This month weâ€™ll look at mirrors and reflections and make a kaleidoscope to take home. Ages 3-5 with family.

Special Events for School Age Kids & Teens
Read to a service dog in a 20-minute session. A great opportunity for reluctant or struggling readers grades K-4 to practice reading aloud! All sessions are first-come, first served. Final session begins 4:10 pm.
