2016 Bass Lake Schedule

The month of love is just around the corner. It is the month of flowers, cards and candies. It is the month of romance and evenings out together in a favorite (and perhaps expensive) restaurant. While it is good that an occasion like Valentine's Day causes us to focus on interpersonal relationships, it is sad that many homes really do not know the true meaning of love.

Ephesians 4:32 reminds us that only those who have experienced forgiveness can truly forgive others. The same is true of love. The Apostle John is quick to remind us that we learn love by seeing what God, through Christ, has done for us. "By this we know love, that He laid down His life for us" (1 John 3:16). "We love because He first loved us" (1 John 4:19). Only those who have responded to the love of God through Christ are able to love others as we should.

Have you entered into this love? Have you received God's gift of pardon through the loving act of His Son (John 3:16; John 10:11,2 Cor. 5:21)? When an individual sees Love in the flesh, he will not settle for a month of love. Love will be a continual fruit in the believer's life (Gal. 5:22-23). Be sure to find real love in the month of February.

The FUNTASTIC Youth Rally will be held in Brainerd on February 5-6. This event is for teens in grades 7-12. Featured speaker is Mr. Chuck Gourley (Pensacola College Representative). You can register for the event HERE. For more details, please call the church at 218-829-3191.

The Talents for Christ Youth Contest (TFC) is scheduled for Saturday, March 12 at Calvary Baptist Church in Rochester. Teens can compete in categories such as Bible knowledge, music (instrumental and vocal), public speaking, Bible teaching, writing and MORE. You could win a scholarship to a Christian college! Registration packets have been sent out to all MARBC churches. For more information, contact PASTOR LOGAN FRIESS.

We've been able to procure our favorite speaker ever for our Northern Fellowship Men's Retreat - it's Captain Ross Crowe. The guy is an amazing preacher and an amazing professional fisherman, and he's going to be giving us both barrels on February 26-27 at Camp Shamineau in Motley (Oak Hollow Retreat Center). I know this sounds like a lot of excitement, and you're probably wondering if you can handle can.

Pastor Derek Claypool will be sending brochures shortly detailing prices and schedules. I'm already working on perfecting my fishing techniques so I'll have good questions for the fishing workshops. Pastor Jim Goodew has taken up yodeling to contribute for special music, so we're all working really hard to make sure this retreat is an out-of-the-park home run. And it will be.

Calvary Baptist Church in Chatfield is pleased to announce the arrival of Pastor Michael Gittins and his wife Julie. The Gittins will begin their ministry on January 31.

Grace Baptist in Austin has announced Devin Larsen as Associate Pastor. Brother Larsen will begin his ministry there on February 14.

Pastor Dan Mead has announced his retirement at First Baptist Church in Faribault. Pastor Mead's last Sunday as pastor of the church will be February 6.

Congratulations are extended to Pastor Derek Claypool. In addition to serving as pastor of Faith Baptist Church (Bemidji), Pastor Claypool has also served as a chaplain with the Bemidji Fire Department. Pastor Claypool was honored in January for his community service.

Camp brochures are currently at the printer and you should find them in your church no later than February 10. This summer camp's program will be a season you will not forget! We will have some new program ideas, a new game (foot golf), plus much more. We would love to have you join us! The camp calendar is located at the end of this newsletter.

The Shekels for Seven Projects is coming along nicely. The camp is in need of $100k by June 1 in order to receive a matching gift of the same amount. So far we have received $75k. The seven projects will enable us to do some expansion (girl's showers), modernization (office/canteen) and allow us to have some new features to the camp (RV loop). One of the seven projects included the purchase of a skid steer. We recently picked up a John Deere 328D with approximately 2,500 hours on it (pictured). We look forward to using this new tool in the days ahead!

Did you know the camp has several discount programs available this year? If you register by April 15, you will qualify for the Early Bird Bonus and save $40 off the price of a youth camp. If you bring a first time friend to camp, both you and your friend will receive $75 off the price of camp. Never been to Family Camp before? Rookie family campers receive discounts too ($50 per coule or $100 per family). Seniors (65+) can also receive 10% off the price of Family Camp.

Of course, you can always go to the camp's WEBSITE or FACEBOOK page for more information.
