Walk with Jesus. Love Each Other.  Serve the City.

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."   — Genesis 1:27

Oh my! What a party!

Sunday May 26th we gathered as a church family to join in celebration with members of Pittsburgh’s Somali Bantu community.
At the party, we practiced living into the truth that we are all created in the image of God by enjoying Somali food, music and dancing.  A week earlier we were privileged to join with our new Somali friends who graced our Sunday service by sharing stories of their journey as refugees.  If you missed the “conversermon” that week you can listen to it here: http://cityviewpittsburgh.sermon.net/main/main/20893165

By the way, we’re still looking for a few friends to help underwrite the cost of the the food at the party. If you’ve got the ability to contribute to help with this need, please email Pastor Leeann.

Holy week at
Cityview Church

Pastor Wayne is fond of saying that Easter is our ‘Superbowl,’ our time of celebrating like no other.  At Cityview Church it’s our desire to engage in both reflection and celebration during Holy Week. Here are opportunities to consider:
  • Holy Thursday Dinner, April  13th @ 7:15PM
We will enjoy a Middle Eastern themed meal together and then pause to hear a reading of the Gospel story involving the betrayal and arrest of Jesus. We will serve Communion to each other around the table and close with prayer and a hymn.  Like most gatherings at Cityview, children are welcome. For you parents with young kids, we anticipate the evening concluding by 8:30.  Sign-up is required. You can email us at cityviewpgh@gmail.com .
  • Stations of the Cross,  April 15th  from 9:30AM -1:30 PM*
    (Sponsored by L.I.V.I.N.G. Ministry)
L.I.V.I.N.G. Ministry will host the  Stations of the Cross on Holy Saturday and Cityview Church is invited:
    • By using sensory experiences to reflect prayerfully on Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection, we are provided, through Stations of the Cross, a devotional experience that allows us to bear witness to Christ’s love for us.  Join us while we reflect on Jesus’ last few living hours.
    • *This gathering with our homeless brothers and sisters requires advance sign-up so that we can be sure there’s enough food for lunch. Please sign up at church OR call L.I.V.I.N.G. Ministry at 412-586-4663.
  • EASTER SUNDAY WORSHIP & LUNCH, April 16th @ 11:00 AM
Join us as we bear witness and celebrate the Resurrection!  We’ll sing and pray and consider what the Scriptures tell us about the fact that Jesus is alive!  Afterward we’ll gather around the table for a celebratory feast!

The Easter Feast at Cityview

Break out your favorite holiday recipes!  We need everyone who’s able to bring a dish to share. Look for a sign-up sheet at the welcome table.

Eggs for the Kids!

Please consider filling plastic eggs with candy to be distributed on Easter Sunday to the kids who join us for our Easter celebration. We will begin collecting the eggs this Sunday all the way until Easter Sunday morning.

Read a Good Book for Lent!

Join us after the worship service on April 30th for a conversation on the book Forgive Us: Confessions of a Compromised Faith. Lent is the perfect time to read this book. Readers are encouraged to reflect on ways in which Jesus followers have chosen comfort and power over love and grace. This is an important book for this time in the life of the Church.

NEW Cityview Small Groups

We are starting at least one new small group that will be for both men and women (couples or singles). Based on survey info, we have scheduled two meetings where we'll gather interested people to make decisions together about the formation of one or two groups (When, where, and how often will groups meet?  What should we study/discuss?  How will groups be led?). We will always provide child care!

Here are the two opportunities to participate in the formation of a new group:

Wednesday, April 12, 7:00 PM, at Cityview Church

Tuesday, April 18, 7:00 PM, either at the church or a nearby home

Please mark your calendar and make plans to attend!  Contact Herb Kolbe (hkolbe@ccojubilee.org or 412-427-3740) with questions or if you are interested but can't attend one of these two meetings.

Thursday Night Dinners

Thursday night dinners are happening every Thursday evening at 6:30 (doors open at 6:00).

We need more folks to volunteer for cooking, set-up, clean up, and just hanging out with our neighbors. Please let Danny Fredley know if you are interested in being a part of the team.
