Africa Oyé announce first wave of acts for 2019 festival

South Africa's BCUC and Algerian Rai stars Sofiane Saidi are the first two acts announced for the 27th annual Africa Oyé festival!

Taking place on 22nd-23rd June in Liverpool's Sefton Park, Oyé is the UK’s largest free celebration of African and Caribbean music and culture.

Angel Field Festival 2019

The Angel Field Festival is a new addition to Liverpool’s cultural calendar - an international, combined arts festival situated in the Everton district of Liverpool which sets out to delight, challenge, beguile and thrill with its content and events. 

It will feature music, theatre, dance, film, visual art, story-telling from around the world as well as that found much closer to home.  We offer a hearty welcome to our audiences as we seek to provide excellent arts for all - for our mind, bodies and spirit.

Performances will feature collaborations with Tate Liverpool, FACT, National Museums Liverpool, RLPO, Milapfest, IMMIX Ensemble, Phil Shotton Big Band and The European Opera Centre, alongside performances from students and alumni of Liverpool Hope University.

Fiesta Bombarda sell out Palm House shows and announce birthday celebration in the Williamson Tunnels

With both tonight and tomorrow's carnivals in the Sefton Park Palm House now sold out, Fiesta Bombarda have announced their 7th birthday party plans!

Taking place on 1st June, the celebration will take over the intimate settings of the Williamson Tunnels. Tickets are expected to sell out quickly for this one so don't delay!

Nick Ellis - Speakers' Corner - Liverpool show

Nick Ellis is dedicated to the concept of “Song” and “Melody”. Some people call it folk, some just call it good old fashioned song craft. Currently based in Liverpool, Ellis blends streetscape narrative-noir with a classic British acoustic approach. 

Following his latest album 'Speakers' Corner', Nick returns to Liverpool's St Brides Church to grace the weathered brick walls with his rhythmic attack and quick-finger lucidity.

SisBis presents: International Women's Day

Liverpool Nightlife Collective SisBis organise an evening of workshops for International Women’s Day and an after party featuring DJs Manara, Giovanna, Nina Kehagia and Tiz on Friday 8th March.


The first part of the evening from 6-10pm is a free event and will feature the Refugee Women Connect choir, a group of singers who are service users of the charity. There will also be stalls and workshops provided by local female collectives.

The 24 Kitchen Street after party will kick off from 10pm and feature BBC Asian Network DJ, Manara as well as SisBis resident, Giovanna and locals Nina Kehagia and Tiz.

Threshold Announce Full 2019 Line-up & 6 Music Festival Fringe

Threshold has announced the full and final line-up for their 2019 festival. Taking place on March 29-30 in Liverpool's Baltic Triangle amidst a packed weekend of BBC 6 Music Festival and Fringe, the veteran Baltic event now is also proud to announce their involvement in the official Fringe hosted by Liverpool City of Music.

Over 130 acts will take to the Baltic stages and exhibition spaces throughout the 29th and 30th March.

VIDEOS: HRH Prince Charles meets Nelson Mandela’s family during Liverpool visit

The Prince of Wales has met the daughter of former South African president Nelson Mandela while on a visit to Liverpool. Charles spoke to Dr Makaziwe, or Maki, Mandela, and her daughter Tukwini, at a reception celebrating the city’s ethnic minority community in St George’s Hall on Tuesday.

Dr Mandela showed the Prince a selection of her father’s drawings, which are on permanent display in the building.

Charles also met Sonia Bassey, the chairwoman of Mandela 8, which has commissioned a memorial to Mandela in Liverpool's Princes Park.

World In A Box - The cross curricular teaching resource

World In A Box, from Liverpool dance company Movema, has been created in collaboration with Primary School teachers to enable them to deliver classes that embed learning about world cultures and other subjects through engaging and accessible dance activities.

The resource develops learning and achievement in multiple subject areas, improving physical and mental well-being, cultural awareness and tolerance.

Each box contains 3 separate units; 'Dancing Around the World', 'Journey Down the Amazon' and 'Naach India' that each feature 6 varied lesson plans

Astronomy Photographer of the Year

A half century on from the moon landing, visitors to Liverpool’s World Museum this spring are invited to experience an Earth’s-eye-view of the universe in the exhibition, 'Astronomy Photographer of the Year', opening 3rd May to 1st September 2019.

It features 100 awe-inspiring photographs that include the winners and shortlisted images from the 2018 competition.

Leonardo Da Vinci - A Life in Drawing

Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool

The Walker Art Gallery will host an exhibition of 12 Leonardo Da Vinci drawings to mark the 500th anniversary of the Renaissance master's death. 

The free exhibition will also present new information about Leonardo's working practices and creative process, exploring the diversity of subjects that inspired his creativity, including painting, sculpture, architecture, music, anatomy, engineering, cartography, geology and botany.
