Reimagining development in the Least Developed Countries

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) could provide a real opportunity for radical transformation in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs). Ahead of a dialogue event in London on 13 June, view a series of expert interviews with leaders, experts, and civil society representatives from the LDCs. The interviews and videos discuss the challenges and opportunities that the SDGs create for LDCs, and to seek ways forward above and beyond the current debate on implementation.

Land investments, accountability and the law

The recent wave of land deals for agribusiness investments has highlighted the widespread demand for greater accountability in the governance of land and investment. Legal frameworks influence opportunities for accountability, and recourse to law has featured prominently in grassroots responses to the land deals.

Drawing on comparative socio-legal research in Cameroon, Ghana and Senegal, these reports explore how the law enables, or constrains, accountability in investment processes. The reports develop a conceptual framework for understanding accountability; assess how national law in the three countries influences opportunities for accountability; and provide pointers for research and action. We have also published a synthesis report that draws on the lessons from Cameroon, Ghana and Senegal.

Read how five African countries are finding new ways to mainstream biodiversity into policy and planning for development.
