We are pleased to let you know that the new Global Water Initiative (GWI) West Africa website is now live.  The website is a useful resource for anyone interested in large dams, irrigated agriculture, land tenure or family farming in West Africa.

The bi-lingual French/English site brings together in one place all of our ongoing research in the form of policy briefings, factsheets and working papers, as well as regular news items, blogs and reports from our workshops and activities on the ground in the countries we work in: Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali, Senegal, and Niger.

New publications this month

This new working paper, Climate and health in informal urban settlements, guides those who are interested in the current and potential health impact of climate change on urban populations in low- and middle-income countries. Describing the sources and types of health data available to assess current disease burdens and the relative importance of environmental risk factors, it also includes how to identify sources of mortality and morbidity data in cities.
 

The application of TAMD (Tracking Adaptation and Measuring Development) in Kenya has focused on strengthening local adaptation planning in Isiolo County in support of Kenya’s National Climate Change Action Plan. TAMD was applied in Isiolo to develop scorecards for county and ward institutions to assess climate risk management. The UN’s Open Working Group (OWG) proposed draft sustainable development goals (SDGs) in July 2014. It is the purpose of this report to integrate the perspectives, priorities and experiences from Africa in helping to ensure that the goals gain the right contribution from forests while optimally fostering their sustainability.
