Spotlight on...IIED at the World Parks Congress

IIED and its partners will be at this year's World Parks Congress in Sydney, Australia from 12-19 November 2014. A global conservation event and a landmark forum on protected areas, the IUCN World Parks Congress (WPC) is held once every ten years.

Members of IIED's Natural Resources Group and their research partners are attending the congress, and will play a key role in a number of events and activities. What is Legal? Formalising artisanal and small-scale mining in Colombia, assesses past formalisation processes in the Columbian mining sector, which is characterised by widespread informality. This paper also analyses the barriers to formalisation for artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) and offers approaches to overcome them.

The 12th Development & Climate Days side event will take place at the UNFCCC COP20 meeting in Lima this December, and registrations are now being accepted.

D&C Days at COP20 will focus on innovative approaches and incisive dialogue for climate-smart development and is being organised in partnership by IIED, the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre, the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN).
