Morning <<First Name>>,

I hope you're with your closest family and friends this holiday. All my love to you and the very best in 2019!

Your friend always,

Ashton
I'm in Chicago until next Thursday - and am longing for the beach! But no Puerto Vallarta plans this year. Have plans next year? I'm headed to the Task Force's Creating Change January 24-27 in Detroit. And the IGLA World Conference in Wellington March 18-22. here's also the unique annual parties like Mid-Atlantic Leather weekend in DC MLK weekend and Winter Party in Miami! Are you going, <<First Name>>?
Nearly 2 years after they began, the OSCE has released a report detailing the abuses suffered by members of the Chechen LGBT community, under direction of paramilitary forces. The random arrest, torture, and humiliation of most gay men but also women - who were told to kill themselves or whose families were told to "take care of them." Instances continue to occur - but the major crackdown (due to international pressue) has subsided - yet there is no penalty for the perpetrators.
Heresy app!
The backlash continues with this horrific news from Indonesia where 2 men were arrested when neighbors called police on them for (apparently) having sex; police arrested them when they found tissues wet with semen. Plus an app in the country's Google store helps track people committing heresy - any activity against the tenets of religion (punishable by 5 years in prison); clearly targeting LGBT people.

Japan TV has one of the very first out people on a Netflix reality show - Terrace House - he is bisexual.

Despite the deaths of migrants - and one trans individual - in custody, ICE found the only openly gay senior leader in the agency to claim it does address LGBTIQ migrant issues in a Blade interview.

US military members living with HIV are being forced out of the military under Trump and the transgender ban appears to be headed to the Supreme Court.

Current moderate Republican Governor John Kasich of Ohio signed a bill prohibiting discrimination against members of the transgender community. However he leaves office shortly; incoming Republican Mike DeWine opposed these types of measures during the campaign.
