In a pre-Christmas meeting, US diplomats received difficult news from State Department authorities: an end to same-sex domestic partner benefits! While the decision is not complete, the plan is to end the policy that provides same-sex couples with the same rights while serving abroad as married heterosexual couples. Read more at the Blade.

You have to be in prison to benefit from this rare "good news" story from Africa: A Zimbabwe health minister stated men who have sex with men should be protected from HIV in the country's detention facilities.

Saks claims it can discriminate against transgender people, despite it's own stated policy and the inclusive US government interpretation of discrimination laws.

State-run conversion-therapy? Ministers of the Indian State of Goa announced they would have a center to make gay youth "normal." India received criticism from UN Secretary Ban Ki-Moon who called its policies "intolerant" in a statement this week - a year after India's Supreme Court upheld a colonial-era law criminalizing same-sex relations.

Be who you are New York! Transgender New Yorkers now can represent a different gender on their birth certificate without surgery or any name change. Also, in West Hollywood, all single stall bathrooms must be gender neutral in businesses & public areas starting today!

Want to adopt in Austria? Same-sex couples can now legally adopt in the conservative country after the Austrian Constitutional Court lifted the ban.

In Egypt, courts acquitted all 26 men arrested and accused of "debauchery" after a reporter encouraged authorities to raid a sauna last month, but the men apparently were forced to endure forensic "tests" to determine if they had sexual relations.

GAYography brief readers,

In the interest of full disclosure, I now am employed by the International Gay & Lesbian Human Rights Commission, what I believe to be the world's premier advocate for global LGBT rights. I plan to continue to strive for premium, unbiased content that's useful and informative. My goal to reach LGBT travelers with both travel insights and LGBT global news remains the same. Any views expressed here are mine and do not represent IGLHRC or any other organization that I may mention.
