Ambassador Ted Osius and partner Clayton Bond
Congratulations to now U.S. Ambassador Ted Osius and partner Clayton Bond (both foreign service officers) who will shortly begin their tour in Vietnam after the Senate confirmed Osius, a long-time Asia expert. Osius will be the 7th openly gay person nominated by President Obama. Will this change things for LGBT rights?

World News.

Mexico City unanimously passed a transgender bill to allow the change of gender on birth certificates. Perfectly timed for today's Transgender Day of Remembrance #TDOR. For a difficult read, take a look at the documented 226 cases of the death of a transgender individual in 2014.

While you can't have sex in Botswana - the nation's highest court ruled that an LGBT rights group has the right to be recognized.

Despite strong homophobia in many countries, acceptance of homosexuality continues to rise globally. Yet - what's known by many activists and leaders in the LGBT movement is not clear to everyone: advances at home may equate to a backlash abroad.


Last week the US State Department and USAID held a donor conference to bring together the major funders promoting LGBT equality worldwide with a keynote address from USAID Administrator, Rajiv Shah.
