High Homodays
As Muslims descend on Mecca this weekend, I look forward to when we'll have a Homo Hajj event, just like Hebro's High Homodays! Look into Hebro if you want to meet the nose & man of your dreams. Even explore Hasidic Williamsburg with a tour this Sunday!
LGBT Characters & Content Increase on TV!
GLAAD's Network Responsibility Index indicated a surge of LGBT content on network TV and it gave it's highest rating of "Excellent" to ABC Family, HBO and MTV. Nothing does better than entertainment to change hearts and minds -- especially abroad!
Police in riot gear protect Belgrade Pride
Survive Belgrade's first non-violent Pride? Go for broke and check out Warsaw's Festival of Equal Rights. Back stateside be proud in the South in Northern Virginia, Asheville, Jacksonville, Orlando or Dallas. Look ahead at LGBT events worldwide in October.

World News.

LGBT people are digging in on the front lines of Hong Kong pro-democracy protests (see here) - but there is no let up in sight from China.

Despite Brazil's support for Friday's UN resolution to condemn violence and discrimination against LGBT people, it remains a dangerous place to be gay with 216 LGBT homicides this year already; 338 in 2012.

In response to passage of marriage equality in Coahuila, Mexico, 30,000 protesters marched Sunday, quoting the Bible and distributing pamphlets on gay "cures." Latin America has some work to do - but check out all the progress highlighted here.

I'm happy one Russian gay teen escaped the "motherland" but the result is an (apparent) end to the largest high school US exchange program (FLEX) (meaning fewer future student defections).

Good news for Burundi gay tourists, the Vietnamese man arrested last week for being gay was released. The only punishment - a $65 fine.

Life is worse if you are caught in Egypt, where courts sentenced 6 men each to 2 years in jail (and a $30 fine) for allegedly advertising an apartment where gay men could meet for sex.

Feeling the shade, Facebook reversed it's required "legal name policy" - and Drag Queens returned to read on the newsfeed - and (maybe) not jump over to Ello. Chantez, you stay...?

In California, homophobes can no longer use a "gay panic" defense and death certificates can be altered to reflect a change in gender for transgender people!

Travel.

Brazilian queens know how to drag it up - even in a favela, these beautiful people know how to celebrate and show off. Check out these OUTtraveler pics.

Looking for a fabulous time in New York, in an already fabulous apartment? Look into Globetrotter Girls' new blog & guide on Housesitting!

Since Hong Kong is in the news, what better reason than to dig up my own personal protest against a couple of fervent, Chinese scam-artists. Find out why I spray-painted "Thieves" on their storefront - and why I won't go back to the biggest Chinese cities.

Check out the hot pics from the Mr. Australasia competition in Sydney last weekend - who would you want to win? Asian or Australian?

As Ebola strikes in Dallas, know that you can check CDC's travel notices for all the best info on travel warnings abroad.

Events.

DC. Hang with the multitude of US Federal employees tonight at Cobalt!

NYC. Visit me in my new neighborhood - Park Slope - at the Greenwood Park outdoor restaurant on Oct 5th to learn about my plans for GAYography & gAytlas Travel!

Chicago. NOH8 campaign photo shoot on Sunday in the Windy City.

San Fran. Network with up-and-coming gay business leaders at this year's Reaching Out LGBT MBA Conference this weekend.

Upcoming. DC. Human Rights Campaign screening of "Campaign of Hate: Russia and Gay Propaganda" with the Reel Affirmations Film Festival, Oct 14th.
