LGBTIQ World News, Travel
& Advocacy

All the Gay News That's Fit to Link

Made possible by Ashton, the GAYographer
Morning <<First Name>>,

Apparently, there's a new effort to reopen the government! Just in time - if it happens - as airports are feeling the squeeze of not paying staff!

The news from Angola is truly incredible - if only their model can move across Africa.

See you around Detroit if you're here,

Ashton
Creating Change 2019
I'm writing from the iconic Renaissance Center in Detroit at the Task Force's annual Creating Change conference until Sunday to spread the word about global LGBTIQ issues. Yesterday, OutRight and other globally-focused groups held an institute, including a panel of Ugandan refugees. Always bringing some controversy, the opening was interrupted by an anti-pinkwashing coalition (above) and the local community is upset that a revered LGBT police officer could not attend in uniform.
It's still time to plan the year ahead to travel! If you happen to be going to China, check out my latest blog - the Straight-Friendly Survival Guide. I'm organizing to spend time in Miami - at least for Winter Party - and of course get back to DC for events like the Victory Fund Brunch Apr 7th and/or Cherry the following weekend (and of course Pride!). Then I'll be preparing for NYC World Pride and rehearsing as NYC Gay Men's Chorus specially commissioned work for Stonewall 50 at Carnegie June 27th.
Will you be in Seattle on Feb 7? OutRight will now hold its biggest event in the city yet! Featuring an incredible activists from China along with OutRight's Executive Director Jessica Stern, the now-titled "OutRising will be your opportunity to hear the latest news in global LGBTIQ rights, from advances in the Asia-Pacific area, to backlash there and basically all other regions!

In a first, Angola decriminalized LGBT - and at the same time made it illegal to discriminate (punishable by 2 years!).

The crackdown continues in Egypt as the government jailed a journalist (even known for his anti-LGBT views) for interviewing a gay man.

This Brazil politician feels he can't return to his own country (and in the NYT) because of threats against him and his family in the new anti-LGBT climate.

Did you want to adopt? Trump is making it harder in the US, providing a religious exemption so agencies can decline LGBT couples.

  Travel

Emergency Alert: Flights are being cancelled and delayed from LGA in New York, Philadelphia, DCA (National Airport) and Newark (EWR) due to staff shortages as a result of the government shutdown.

The Guardian takes on problems with finding the world's "most" LGBT-friendly city in this great article.

Feeling proud this year? Airbnb has put out word about the most popular places to travel fro Pride.

Do you like learning about travel through video? This travel vlogger was just named "Mr. Gay Canada."

Champagne Icon  Events
