Don't Boycott
It's difficult to decide whether to travel to anti-gay places - but boycotts don't really help. Travels of Adam wrote a superb blog on the subject and quoted me. Just remember: change comes slowly. Travel is a way to build connections and change minds, not make a bold statement. But first consider your and others safety.
ILGA-Europe
Now is the plan to organize your fall - purchase tickets today! Flights to Europe are still very cheap - I'm headed to Paris en route to Cyprus for this year's ILGA Europe conference. Consider Folsom in SF, Pride in Atlanta, OutFest in Philly, Halloween in New Orleans. Or take one of the first direct flights to Cuba!
Southern Decadence or Halloween
If you're not already Burning it up in Black Rock, you're sure to feel the heat in New Orleans for Decadence. Or perhaps you want to party and give back - support Austin's LGBTIQ community at Splash Days. It's also Pride in Calgary or go hibernate with the Bears on Ice in Reykjavik.

A fire destroyed bars in Taipei's gay Red House Theater area, including Café Dalida, G-MiXi, Ta Ke - tragedy for one of my favorite cities. See my blog to find out why I had such a great time!

Two gay teens in Kenya are likely homeless now after being beaten by classmates and expelled for having sex in a boarding school bathroom.

Besides the passing this week of movie icon Gene Wilder, Mexico lost its gay music icon, Juan Gabriel to a heart attack on Sunday.

In Tunis, an attacker physically assaulted human rights defender and local activist Bouhdid Belhedi, who survived the attack but the police did not come to his rescue.

Jetblue launched the first US direct commercial flight to Cuba yesterday, flying into Santa Clara from Ft. Lauderdale - Jetblue offers tourists visas for $50 for passengers and the initial cost is $100 one-way.

Travel Warning - If you're headed to Florida or Hawaii in the next few days, pay attention to the weather!

If you Scruff, take a look at what users chose as their favorite gay travel destinations, including Capetown, South Africa and Ogunquit, Maine.

NYC. Join Out In Tech (curator of the best NYC networking happy hour) to support international LGBT activists as they work to help build websites. Saturday, Sept 10 is the launch event's after-party.
