We Wish All a Happy Holiday Season!
From Our Director
With the holiday season upon us once again, like many others, I am wondering “Where has this year gone?”  And, it wasn’t just a wonderful year for Epilepsy Education Everywhere (EEE), but for epilepsy advocates everywhere.  Without the help of volunteers and fellow advocates, we wouldn’t be where we are today.   We’d like to extend a special thank you to all of our EEE volunteers -- especially our board members, our Facebook administrator (and Volunteer of the Year), and our Purple Ball committee members and volunteers.  At EEE, we more than doubled, and in some cases tripled, our outreach both locally and through social media, but when you look at the big picture, many wonderful things occurred to bring epilepsy to the forefront.

A few things I’d like to highlight:

  • The epilepsy community came together at the first ever Epilepsy Awareness Day at Disneyland courtesy of Dr. Diane Stein and Brad Levy.  We were glad to be able to participate in such a wondrous event and look forward to not only participating in the future, but also seeing it grow each year.  See you next year on November 6th!
  • Advocates around the country participated in our Purple Proclamation Project.  We were happy to see so many people participate across the states!  Mark your calendar for next July or August to contact your local representative for next year’s Purple Proclamation Project.  Let’s turn the USA purple!
  • Congratulations to Jackie Peterson!  Jackie, a teen advocate in San Diego, moved across the country when she started college.  She collaborated with some of her college sororities and fraternities to make purple flowers for distribution during epilepsy awareness month.  No matter where you are, no matter what you do, you can advocate for epilepsy!
  • A huge thumbs up to Eric Miller!  If you don’t know Eric, he certainly turned a bad situation into a positive one.  Not only did he start the Candlelight Concerts for Epilepsy Awareness following the unexpected death of his wife Carolina to SUDEP, but he also expanded that series across all 50 states in March.  And, he trekked up Mount Kilimanjaro this August in support of epilepsy!  50 Concerts in 50 States will be back in March.  See if one will be in your area!

Of course, there are many more advocates out there.  Thanks to all of you including Tiffany Kairos, Kaitlyn Slomski, David Julian, Heather Barnes Jackson, Julie Henckel Hutchison, the San Diego Meetup group and many more whom I’ve only started getting to know.  If our paths haven’t already crossed, hopefully they will this year.  And here’s to 2013 being just the start of many great things to come.  Looking forward to working with everyone for epilepsy awareness and education as we continue to reach further into our community for people with epilepsy.  Thank you again to everyone for all the fantastic work that they have done!

The 4th Annual Purple Ball

Thank you to everyone who made the 4th Annual Purple Ball our best ever!

From the Rialto High NJROTC who helped setup to all the dancers who attended, we had a glorious evening. Thank you again to all our sponsors especially World Gardens Cafe, Dancing in Riverside, Creative by Design, Signet Sounds, and Tomboc Photography.

We're looking forward to next year's event on November 15th, 2014.  Check out our

FDA Approves RNS

A new alternative to help control seizures was approved by the FDA in November.  It's an implantable device that uses a method of seizure control called responsive neurostimulation.  Check out the blog written by our colleague here.   Neuropace is the device maker and has an official page that can provide information to patients, families, and doctors here.
